Live at Zankel Music Center

With Joel Brown and Peter Madcat Ruth and Special Guests Dave Brubeck and Frank Brown. [Blue Forest Records]

This is the live recording of a special concert as part of the Saratoga ArtsFest at Skidmore College in June, 2011. The concert began with Triple Play performing alone, then Joel's father Frank Brown joined the band on clarinet. During the middle of Joel's guitar solo on "Blue Rondo a la Turk" you will hear the ovation start as Chris's dad, Dave Brubeck, joined the group on piano as their Special Guest. The quintet played several tunes, winding up with an amazing solo by 90 year old Dave, where he seemingly condenses the history of jazz as each chorus inventively meanders in surprising directions. It was an incredible night with a terrific audience and lots of musical sparks flying in multiple directions!
